Confirm the annual totalBelgian offers are usually quoted as a monthly gross, with a thirteenth month and holiday pay paid on top. Add them up and enter the annual total, not twelve times the monthly figure.
Ask about meal and eco vouchersMaaltijdcheques / chèques-repas and eco vouchers are common and taxed favourably. They are part of what the job is worth, but they are not in the salary figure.
Ask about a company car or mobility budgetMany offers include a company car or a mobility budget instead. A car is taxed as a benefit in kind, and neither is modelled here, so compare offers with and without one on the same basis.
Ask about group insuranceA groepsverzekering / assurance groupe is a supplementary pension your employer pays into. It builds a pension in your name, but it is not modelled, so ask what the employer contributes.
Find out the joint committeeYour sector's joint committee (paritair comité / commission paritaire) sets minimum pay, when salaries are indexed and which bonuses are due. Ask which one covers the role.
Know your commune's taxThe commune you live in adds a surcharge on the federal income tax, and it is not included in this calculator's figure. Where you choose to live changes your real tax.

Questions before you sign

Will my salary rise with inflation?

Usually, yes. Belgian salaries are indexed automatically, but when and how depends on your sector's joint committee, so ask which one applies.

Which commune's surcharge applies to me?

The commune where you are resident on the first of January of the assessment year. It is charged on the federal tax when your return is assessed, not taken from your salary each month.
