Confirm the annual grossIrish offers are normally annual. Check whether any bonus, allowance or overtime is included in the figure or paid on top, because only the guaranteed part belongs in the calculator.
Ask about the pension schemeDoes the employer run an occupational scheme, how much do they contribute and do they match yours? If there is no scheme, ask whether you will be enrolled in My Future Fund.
Check your PRSI classMost private-sector employees pay class A. If you are coming on assignment from abroad, ask whether you remain insured in your home country instead, because that changes the deduction.
Ask whether SARP appliesIf your employer is assigning you from an associated company abroad, ask whether they will certify you for the Special Assignee Relief Programme. It has to be claimed on time.
Register for your tax credits earlyUntil Revenue has your details, your employer may apply emergency tax. Register through myAccount as soon as you have a PPS number.
Check benefits in kindHealth insurance, a car or accommodation paid by the employer are taxed as income. Ask which benefits come with the role and how they are valued.

Questions before you sign

What is emergency tax?

A temporary basis your employer uses when Revenue has not yet issued your tax credits. It usually over-deducts, and the difference is refunded once your record is set up.

Is health insurance mandatory in Ireland?

No. Public healthcare exists alongside private insurance, which many employers offer as a benefit. If they pay for it, it counts as a benefit in kind.
