Confirm the annual salaryNorwegian offers are usually annual. Ask whether overtime, a bonus or allowances are included or paid on top.
Ask about the occupational pensionEmployers must pay a minimum into an occupational pension, and many pay more. Ask what the scheme pays and whether you contribute.
Understand holiday payIn your first year you have not yet earned feriepenger, so your holiday month may be unpaid or reduced. Ask how the employer handles it.
Get your tax cardYour employer needs a tax deduction card from Skatteetaten. Without one, a high flat deduction applies until it arrives.
Ask whether the PAYE scheme appliesForeign workers on short stays and lower incomes can be taxed at a flat source rate instead. It is optional in some cases and not modelled here.
Check the probation periodProbation of up to six months is common, with a shorter notice period during it.

Questions before you sign

Do I need a Norwegian ID number?

Yes. You will get a national identity number or a D number when you register, and you need it for the tax card and your payslip.

Is Troms and Finnmark taxed differently?

Yes. The action zone in the north has a lower rate on ordinary income and other benefits. The calculator assumes mainland Norway outside it.
